Jefferson Oaks Subdivision was established in 1996. By the second filing, there were a total of 65 houses. In 2012, one additional home was built completing our neighborhood.

Our Beautiful Oaks
We have two historic, centennial, oak trees on property which means they are over 100 years old!

This designation protects them by law from being cut down or damaged.

The New Orleans Pop Festival
Before Jefferson Oaks existed, the site our neighborhood was built on was once a dirt bike racetrack and was used as the campsite for when the New Orleans Pop Festival was hosted here in 1969.

Originally planned for the City of New Orleans, the festival was to be a "Woodstock 2.0" but after actual Woodstock had taken place and the chaos that ensued, New Orleans backed out as host. Prairieville gladly offered to take the festival on boasting performers such as Janis Joplin, Chicago, and the Grateful Dead.

The actual concert took place just up the road at the Baton Rouge International Speedway off Highways 42 and 73, the current site of Willow Lake East neighborhood.

If you'd like to view actual newspaper clippings from that amazing event, one of our residents has combed through the public library microfiche of archive and compiled every clipping in a file you can view here

The Robert P Warren House
South of our neighborhood is the historic Robert Penn Warren House, also known as Twin Oaks.

The home was built in 1905 and is listed on the U.S. national Register of Historic Places. The 7-acre property was once the private residence of the author of Pulitzer Prize winning novel, All the King's Men, written in 1946.

School District History
Did you know we used to be in St. Amant High School's district? This changed when Dutchtown High was completed in 2003 to serve our area. Total enrollment that year was 1,833 students compared to approximately 2,600 in the 2023-2024 school year.

Enrollment in our area school has now eased to 2,030 with the opening of Prairieville High School for the 2024-2025 school year.

As an interesting side note, this photo shows The original 1915 Oak Grove High School which used to be nearby at the corner of Hwy 42 and Jefferson Oaks where the current community center is now located. Back then we were in what was called School District 10.

We have many neighborhood-long residents!
Many of us have been here since the first filing! How's that for a testament to the strong sense of community and stability we've built here? With so many long-time residents, you'll find a welcoming environment where neighbors know each other by name, and friendships are formed that last a lifetime. The pride we take in our homes and the care we show for our neighborhood is unmatched, making it a truly special place to live.

Whether you're looking for a tight-knit community, a safe environment, or just a place to settle down, our neighborhood offers the perfect mix of comfort, connection, and convenience.

Come see why so many have chosen to make this their forever home!
